| St Piran's Stud Spanish Horses Dressage Competitions In 2009 St P's finally made it out onto the competition circuit. In April we bought Guino a purebred Spanish gelding by Oficial XXIX, we had previously imported Guino to sell and ended up buying him for ourselves! Guino has a fabulous string of brothers and sisters by Oficial XXIX competing successfully over in Spain, not least his full sister Facul who in 2009 was one of only 70 horses to be listed in the ANCCE Young Reproductors catalogue, being successful horses at competition with great merit as reproducing stock. Guino was all the more interesting as a prospect for us because we also purchased his dam, a Yeguada Militar mare called Nefritis II. Guino had performed twice at MAPA ministry dressage events in Madrid and scored GOOD, receiving very promising comments from none other than Rafael Sotto. So our competition begins here in 2009. We decided to ease ourselves in by attending some local unaffiliated events and Gwennap Riding Club, starting at Prelim and Novice level. In our first two competitions Guino and his rider, Kirsty Lee were placed 1st at Novice level with a first score of 64.4% and then 4 weeks later 70.0% So we are thrilled with the super start made, especially as Guino has never had to work on an un-level grass surface. Unbeknown to us this particular set of dressage tests are qualifiers for the David Broome - Cricklands Dressage Championships of Great Britain.
