As the crowd
arrived and filled
the stands, Paul
and I began to
realise just how
popular the
Spanish horse is.
Even in the sleepy
village of
Perranuthnoe our
small stud
(founded in 2001)
managed to pull a
crowd of at least
480 people on a
day which had
several other local
equestrian events

help to provide
The day started with a simple display of Mendiondo showing off his paces on the
lunge.

This was followed by an introduction to the use of physiotherapy techniques to
improve rider balance by stud Chartered Human and Veterinary Physiotherapist
Celia Cohen.  Watching the crowd shuffle and sit up straight as Celia talked
about the importance of good posture great.  This display ended with me
demonstrating rising trot when kneeling on a balance ball.
Mendiondo then went on to demonstrate how a crooked rider (me riding with my
eyes shut and adopting a sloppy posture) gave 'unknown' messages instructing
him to turn and flex.

Bierzo ridden by Elena (one of the stallion trainers at Susaeta PRE stud in
Madrid) gave a lovely display of the novice Spanish horse in training.  It was the
first time Bierzo had ever performed in front of a crowd and Maria (breeder of
Bierzo) and I were both thrilled and proud of his behaviour.

Finally our
mares
came out
to show
the style of

are

at the stud.
TB Abergwiffy mare Lantyan Fair Spark with the stud's first foal Alquimista
beautifully demonstrated the potential of a superb Spanish TB cross.  Ali B
showing all of the boldness of the TB combined with the elegance and cadence of
a Spanish horse
In the afternoon our stars

Peter & Batanero in Passage
lecture /demo included advanced dressage moves
Peter held 4 x 1/2 hr lecture demonstrations
- training the young horse
- more advanced dressage, lateral work, piaffe and passage
- Doma Clasica in Spanish dress
- Doma Vaquera in Spanish dress

For 2 hours Peter held the crowd transfixed with his work.
Throughout the displays he had a fantastic rapport with the crowd
who were engaged throughout.

The final 5 minutes of the Doma Clasica and Doma Vaquera
lectures were to music with Peter riding Tres Sangres stallion Saeta
with a huge Spanish flag, and grey stallion Farolero with a 14 ft
Garrocha pole.  He held us all spell bound, I have had so many
comments on the beauty of his work, how it was like watching ballet
& people felt moved to tears.
It was an honour to have had them with us and without doubt we all felt we had been treated to a very special 2 hours work - Paul and I will be eternally
grateful to Peter and Danielle for trekking down to be with us

The day ended with auctioneer Philip Care and his team from Care and Company, who sold off the 53 lots donated by our sponsors.

All in all a fantastic success for both Shelterbox and St Piran's Stud.
A huge thank you to all our sponsors, helpers, El Caballo de España, Alan Rideout, the Culdrose team (for seating) and Jo Laity (for car parking) and of
course all of our visitors on the day.
